This is Sister George writing you from the MTC in Buenos Aires. I wanted to thank you for sending your son or daughter to the MTC. It was the missionaries who made our Christmas very beautiful! I hope they enjoyed their Christmas here. I want to share some of it with you:
It began when some of the Sister Missionaries set up a few decorations in the dining room:
AND some of the missionaries put up little touches of Christmas in their apartments. Here are a few:
Onthe 24th, we had a Christmas Program……really two programs, one in each language. Some readers were chosen to share poems, and verses from the scriptures. And we sang Christmas hymns from the hymnbook and the Children’s Songbook. A trio sang “Mary’s Lullaby” (Sisters Farr, Kirkham, and Lundskog). I think the missionaries saw this story from a missionary point of view this year.
Later in the day we had some activities. I won’t attempt to give you the names of all the missionaries in the pictures, but I think you can identify your missionary! The missionaries acted out the story of the Little Fir Tree, who hopes he’ll get picked as a Christmas Tree this year. Here you see a frog sitting on a log.
All the tall trees of the forest:
And the boy comes to the forest and trips over the log. (A snowflake and star are enjoying the scene).
And here’s some of the audience: (And a star)
Next we played a fun game where everyone has a gift, but a story is read and you pass the gift to the left for every word that begins with T and to the right for every word that begins with M. It was a fun game, and when the story ended, they opened the gift they currently held:
Gifts received by the Sisters:
And some of the Elders:
Then the missionaries shared some of their favorite family Christmas traditions. It turned out to be a tender experience as we all listened to those “homemade” traditions that make Christmas what it is!
The kitchen staff prepared “goodies, Argentina style”:
And the missionaries sang carols…..in Spanish this time.
On the 25th the Area President, his 2nd counselor, and their wives came to the MTC for a Christmas Devotional. Afterwards they did “The Twelve Days of Christmas….. Missionary Style”.
They have promised to send me the pictures they took, so when they arrive I’ll pass them on to you.
I hope your Christmas was as beautiful as ours was here at the MTC!
P.S. It’s a real joy to have Elder Pace here at the MTC. He’s doing well with the language, and he’s always pleasant and smiling. He’s confident, and the others look up to him. He’s steady. I’m sure when he gets to the mission he will be an excellent missionary!!
